Director Ko Hee-jin says, ‘I will not make excuses’

The fierce storm of professional volleyball women's Jeong Kwan-Jang stopped in the third game of the playoffs (PO).

Jeong Kwan-jang concluded her season in the 3rd game of the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League Women's PO held at the Samsan World Gymnasium in Incheon on the 26th. On this day, Cheong Kwan Jang lost to Heungkuk Life Insurance with a set score of 0 to 3 (18-25 19-25 19-25).

As soon as coach Ko Hee-jin entered the press conference room after the game, he smiled bitterly and said, "It's a shame that the game came out like this at the end." He then applauded the opposing team, saying, “Congratulations to Heungkuk Life Insurance on advancing to the championship match.”

Cheong Kwan-Jang has been showing off his fierce momentum since the mid to late part of this season, causing a sensation. Captain Lee So-young (175cm) returned to full-time play in the 4th round, recording 13 wins and 5 losses in 18 games, and advanced to the post season (PS) for the first time in 7 years.

Her regular season record was 20 wins, 16 losses (61 points). We widened the points gap with 4th place to the point where we didn't have to play semi-PO, and we were able to advance to PO with plenty of room.

Even against Heungkuk Life Insurance at PO, the performance was not bad. Although they lost the first game, they were able to win the second game with perfect performance and advance to the championship.

However, on this day, Cheong Kwan-Jang was nowhere to be found in the second game. The team attack success rate was 33.03% and attack efficiency was only 16.51%. In particular, their offensive power was disappointing as they could not exceed 20 points in all three sets.

Coach Ko gave an overall review of the game, saying, “There is no question of who played well or poorly in today’s game.” He added, “We were lacking, and Heungkuk Life Insurance did well.”

It is always regrettable that 'injury bad news' hit CheongKwanJang before and after PS. Lee So-young, who led the team's momentum in the second half, missed the season due to a ruptured left ankle ligament, and starting middle blocker Jeong Ho-young (190cm) was substituted out during the first game after feeling pain in his knee.
